Criminal Injuries Compensation

SP Legal Service > Criminal Injuries Compensation

The Criminal Injuries Compensation Board (CICB) gives money or compensation to people harmed by violent crimes. It doesn’t matter you are a Canadian citizen or not, but the crime must have happened in Ontario. A violent crime includes offenses such as assault, sexual assault, domestic assault (e.g. abuse by a spouse/partner), child abuse, murder, attempted murder, firearm offenses, poisoning, and arson.

At SP Legal Services, we are here to help you get the compensation you need to deal with the financial crisis you fall victim to due to a criminal injury. Our paralegals know all the ins and outs of getting a compensation claim and stand by your side at every step of the way.

Who can the CICB help?

The CICB gives money (compensation) to two categories of people:

  • People who are victims of a violent crime, and
  • People whose family members died in a violent crime.

In determining whether to make an order for compensation and the amount thereof, the Board shall have regard to all relevant circumstances, including any behavior of the victim that may have directly or indirectly contributed to his or her injury or death, and it may, in its discretion, refuse to make an order for compensation or order a reduced amount of compensation.

Our paralegals at SP Legal Services can help individuals in getting up to $30,000 as victims of violent crimes and for the following:

  • Physical injuries
  • Psychological injuries
  • Pain and suffering
